Why we need a Law on the Protection of Equines

The current legislation in force is inadequate to protect equines from abandonment and abuse.
Today:
Equines are not recognised as a distinct category with specific needs (work, transport, reproduction, abandonment),
The entire protection mechanism (municipalities, programmes, registries, sanctions) applies to dogs and cats,
Access to shelter, water, food, and the Five Freedoms are not established as enforceable welfare standards, resulting in insufficient protection to save equines,
The existing legislation does not create a coherent system of equine traceability,
It allows the use of equines in religious events and in film productions without any reference to welfare standards, as such standards do not exist within this law,
Equine protection organisations are excluded from the Register of Animal Welfare Organisations, thereby excluding them from institutional cooperation and funding.
Together with the organisation A Promise to Animals (https://www.apromisetoanimals.org/ell), we have submitted a concrete proposal for the creation of an institutional framework for the protection of equines.
It is important for civil society to stand with us to be their voice
Help us spread our demand.
