Equine circus in Greece

In our country, where we have banned the use of animals in circuses, the “exceptional” law 4830/2021 gives permission to use animals “within the framework of observing folk or local traditions, they are allowed exclusively, if the welfare of the animals is ensured and with the mandatory presence of a veterinarian throughout the event”.
During the circus - fair - local tradition, they very obviously constantly beat the horses to hurt them, so that they react and the “riders” show how great they are that they do not fall. The pulling and pain that occurs inside the horse’s mouth with their hands when they lose their balance and rely on the bit is difficult to understand.
In the middle of the night and with loud sounds and deafening music, which cause stress and irritation to the unfortunate "tools" horses, is this the circus that the "perfect" law allows?
Only one legislation for the protection of equines with clear welfare rules for each category of equines will save the equines in Greece. We don’t want offend the super law, but the five freedoms were drawn up in 1979 to protect animals in slaughterhouses. They are far from the needs of equines today.
It is time for our government to stop hiding behind legal loopholes and excuses. We need clear and strict legislation for the protection of equines, with welfare rules that correspond to reality and not to the slaughterhouses of 1979. Every day of delay is complicity in abuse.
